Tales from the pit

After reading another individuals tale about the Clash Of The Titans I had to tell mine. Unless there was another titans tour the one he spoke of was actually in 1991. I was stationed in Florida(Tampa) and had recently gotten back from Desert Storm and a buddy had gotten me a ticket to the show as a welcome back gift. Four of us had went to the show and actually met Alice In Chains as they got off their bus. I like AIC but they definitely did not fit in at this show. Slayer played after AIC If I remember right Slayer and Megadeth were switching off headlining each night so this was Megadeths night to headline. The lights went out and Hell Awaits started the crowd ramped up and it it was fucking mayhem from start to finish. When Tom Araya dedicated Mandatory Suicide to all the troops that returned home alive it kind of gave me chills as that actually felt personal and just all around cool as fuck that he did that. Able to tell I was in the military some people around me(people I didn't even know) grabbed me hugged me and hoisted me up and I ended up over the barricade right in front of Tom I turned to the crowd threw my arms up and screamed "FUCK YEAH!" Then security grabbed me and put me back in the crowd. Decade Of Aggression(disk 1) was recorded at that show and myself and the three friends with ended up in one of the crowd photos in the booklet. Having seen Slayer before that and a number of times since this was the fucking best one yet!

hell yeah

I was backstage at that show. Still to this day have my full ticket (stub intact) and signed by Dave Mustaine. That show rocked. I remember I was at the front right portion of the floor crowd when AIC opened and the crowd went nuts.... I don't think so much because AIC was everyones fav...most of us were there to see Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth, but because everyone was SO Psyched for this show. At the time this show was a metal head kids dream come true. Still today when I listen to Still Reigning disc 1 I get fucking goosebumps.
If anyone who was there in a wheelchair without a ticket, and was given a backstage pass from Megadeth's tour manager reads this......contact me. I'm the dude that you got in with you, you crazy bastard!
I'm taking my kid to see the American Carnage Tour in Chicago....since Tennessee got fucked and cancelled this year, he is 15 and this will be his second Slayer show, but the first that he is really old enough to enjoy it. What a great way to bond with your kid!
