Tales from the pit

I have seen Slayer 11 times, and I would consider myself a diehard fan. I'm 49 years old, and have been listening to then for the better part of my life. I have turned my 15 year old son onto them, and have taken him to 2 shows,...he loves it! At the last show we saw them was in Portland Oregon on the "Hell on earth" tour with Zombie and Exodus. Now you guys may not want to read this, but I'm not real good at sugar coating things,...so I'll just put it out there; Slayer was so fucking loud that you could barley tell what song they were playing, so needless to say, I will report that as being not the best Slayer show Sad I had'nt seen Zombie since he was with White Zombie,...His stage show was out of this world! It was like a continuous barrage of lights, fire and media! I was excited to see Exodus as it has been about 20 years since I had seen them....what a let down! Thank god for Gary Holt, or that band would fall to the way side! Gary did a great job filling in for Jeff,...But somehow I felt like it was'nt Slayer without Jeff. I felt the same way when Dave took time off,...it just was'nt the same.
Get well soon Jeff, and Slayer,....Keep the metal monster alive!

Yeah we are all getting there. I have seen Slayer so many Since i moved here in 1990. Including recently at Big 4, Hell On wheels here in Seattle, And with Megadeath and Testament as the second to last stop. Portland got the Shit show. All in a years time. I now sit back buy the Booze and get Loaded. Mosh days are over with last back surgery...
But I ask that they Play the Whole Seasons Album at my wake.

I hear ya...us old guys...

We went to the big 4 at Indio this year and for the first time I actually felt kinda old and tired...lol...Still worked the pit a bit and I'm a very healthy 41 year old but starting to feel the age creeping up on me and its getting harder to keep up with my son...

Someday we'll be rockin Slayer "tales from the wheelchair" ; )

??? @ USAFORSLAYER

I totally agree! I was in no means knocking my favorite band,...just sayin".
The fans know what to expect when they go to a Slayer show, they dont rely on a big fancy lazer light show and shit like that, it's just Slayer! They have stayed true all these years, thats why I love them!
I was mentioning the sound because the venue they played in was'nt made to handle that kinda noise, so they sounded not as good as I have heard them before. Just a reveiw from me to all those who read this page.
In the end, it's Slayer, thats why we are all here, and thats why we old guys have stuck with them for the better part of out lives! I will continue to go see them as long as they continue to tour, some shows may not be as good as others,... but I'll still be there! Like I said,...I'm a diehard!!!

???

Props to you and your son my Slayer friend...: )

I'm 41, been a Slayer since the beginning in 83-84 SNM...Been to more than 2 handfulls of Slayer shows myself, here in SD and LA...My son is 18 and I have taken him to 4 Slayer shows aswell...Some shows, of course were better sounding than others but whatever, it's fuckin slayer...

11 Slayer concerts and you never seen them too loaded to play...lol...???...Have you ever really expected to go to a Slayer show and have the band members be sober....lol?...Shit, they still sound better than all the other fucked up bands playing ; )

I've seen Slayer at some local small clubs here in SD totally fucked up and loved every minute of it...

Just sayin...

Hey Whitewizard, Thanks for the response! Your right, at the last show (August), we must have seen three generations of fans. The old timers, like us, bringing in the new kids,....keeping it alive!

Slayer fans know no age limits.

EXGI...After reading your latest contribution to ''Tales From The Pit'' I was really pleased to hear that you're a long time SLAYER fan like myself. In the Canadian city my wife and I live in, we get pretty decent metal concerts...but not enough SLAYER gigs for me.I 've had recent neck/spinal surgery...and I was so fuckin' pissed off about not being physically able to make it to the ''Hell On Earth'' show you reviewed in ''Tales From The Pit''. Well I thank you big time for having the honesty to give the gig a real (sugar free) review.I admire your genuine honest comments on the show, especially on a '' fan '' website. Our local media knocked the concert, but friends who went gave me ''reviews'' pretty similar to yours. One good buddy of mine got me a really wicked tour t shirt to cheer me up about being able to attend. But, what really impressed me most about your review was your mentioning having your 15 year old son join you...and getting him into SLAYER also. Now that's a Dad! SLAYER fans seem to run 8 to 80...and that's ageless appeal! I was aware of Jeff still being unable to play this show. Get well soon Jeff...SLAYER isn't the same without you.As you said...and I heard Gary Holt did a top notch guitar job.By the way I'm 57 and plan to be able to listen to SLAYER when I'm 87...Take care,,,thanks for the great review.l
