Tom Araya recieves the key to his hometown, Vina Del Mar

Tom Araya, vocalist/bassist for Slayer, was presented with the Key to the City in his birthplace of Vina del Mar, Chile, on Friday, June 3 by the city's Mayor Virginia Reginato. As part of the band's current South American tour, Slayer headlined a show in Santiago on June 2, about an hour's drive from Araya's hometown. Araya and his family lived in Chile until he was about five years old, at which time they immigrated to the United States.

SONISPHERE FESTIVAL organizers have issued the following statement regarding day tickets for the 2011 event:

In response to an overwhelming number of requests, we have been able to secure permission to put a strictly limited number of day tickets on sale via THE POWER BALLOT scheme. Due to the huge demand for day tickets anticipated, and the limited number that can be made available, we have decided to use a ballot system as we believe it is the fairest way to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to obtain tickets.

CANNIBAL CORPSE'S PAT O'BRIEN WILL STEP IN AS SLAYER'S GUEST GUITARIST

Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O'Brien will fill in for Exodus' Gary Holt when Holt leaves the Slayer European tour to play with his own band Exodus at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile on April 4. Holt has been filling in for Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman since the tour kicked off February 26 in Australia.

Holt's last show with Slayer will be April 4 in Padova, Italy;, O'Brien will join the band for the April 6 show in Croatia, and will finish the European dates with Slayer that wrap up on April 14 in Holland. Read more
